Linvox Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Linvox is a Chrome extension that turns a voice note into issues in Linear. This policy explains what data Linvox handles, why, and where it goes.
Summary
- Linvox records audio only after you click its button, and stops when you click again (up to 10 minutes).
- Your recording is sent to the Linvox service to be transcribed and turned into draft issues. The audio is not stored.
- Your Linear API key stays in your browser. It is sent only to Linear's API, never to the Linvox service.
- We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it beyond what is needed to run Linvox.
Data stored in your browser
Linvox keeps these settings in Chrome's extension storage on your device:
- your Linear Personal API key
- your default Linear team
- a random install ID, created when you install Linvox
Removing the extension deletes them.
Data sent when you record
When you finish a recording, Linvox sends the following to the Linvox service:
- the audio of your recording
- your Linear name and user ID, and the name of the selected team
- the names and IDs of the team's members, labels and projects, so that drafts can only use people, labels and projects that already exist
- your install ID
The Linvox service uses Microsoft Azure to transcribe the audio and to draft issues from the transcript. Azure processes this data on our behalf and does not use it to train its models.
The draft issues are returned to your browser. You review them there, and the issues you approve are created by your browser directly through Linear's API with your own API key. Data you send to Linear is covered by Linear's privacy policy.
Data the Linvox service keeps
- Audio: not stored. It is discarded once the transcription is done.
- Transcripts: the text of your recording is kept for a limited period to help us fix problems and improve how issues are drafted, and is then deleted. Transcripts are not shared with anyone.
- Request log: for each request we record the time, your install ID, the length of the recording, and whether it succeeded (with an error code if it failed). The log contains no audio, no transcript, no issue content and no Linear API key.
- Member, label and project lists, and draft issues: used to answer the request and not stored.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use your data for advertising, or to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
- We do not use your data for any purpose other than turning your voice notes into Linear issues and keeping that service working.
- We do not record anything unless you start a recording.
Linvox's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices
- You can stop a recording at any time, and you can remove Linvox at any time.
- You can revoke the Linear API key you gave Linvox in Linear's settings (Settings → Account → Security & Access).
- To ask us to delete the transcripts and request log tied to your install, email us at the address below.
Children
Linvox is a work tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
